Motion Preservation technologies in cervical Spine Surgery

چکیده
A cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) has been a surgical option for the management of cervical disc disorders since 1958 (16). Over time, longterm outcome studies increasingly focused on adverse effects, specifically on the vertebrae and the intervertebral discs adjacent to the level fused (2,8,10). The concern that spinal fusion may potentially contribute to the acceleration of adjacent segment degeneration led to increased interest in “motion preservation” technology and popularity of cervical disc replacement in the reconstruction after anterior cervical decompressive operations.

Effect of Artificial Disc Position on Spine Biomechanics in the Cervical Spine: A Finite Element Study
INTRODUCTION Total disc replacement(TDR) has been suggested for surgical method to treat degenerative disc disease of the cervical spine because it decompresses nerves and preserves motion segments. The short-term outcomes of the TDR of cervical spine has been well reported to treat degenerative disc diseases as a motion preservation technique in spite of some clinical controversies such as imp...
متن کاملAdjacent Segment Pathology after Anterior Cervical Fusion
Anterior cervical fusion has become a standard of care for numerous pathologic conditions of the cervical spine. However, subsequent development of clinically significant disc disease at levels adjacent to fused discs is a serious long-term complication of this procedure. As more patients live longer after surgery, it is foreseeable that adjacent segment pathology (ASP) will develop in increasi...
متن کاملCervical spine kinematics after anterior cervical discectomy with or without implantation of a mobile cervical disc prosthesis; an RCT
BACKGROUND When surgically treating cervical degenerative disc disease, the most commonly performed procedure is anterior cervical discectomy. This procedure is performed with, or without fusion promoting methods. For both options the rate of fusion is high and there is much debate whether fusion of the treated segment is a contributing factor to accelerated degeneration of adjacent motion segm...
متن کاملPredicting the Risk of Hearing Impairment Following the Cervical Spine Diseases by Measuring the Cervical Range of Movements: A Pilot Study
Introduction: Cervical spine abnormalities can affect the ear vessels and or nerves with different mechanisms. Ear dysfunctions following cervical spine injuries can be manifested as hearing loss, vertigo, or tinnitus. Usually, cervical spine injuries can cause pain and Range of Motion (ROM) limitation. The major objective of this study was to determine which cervical ROM limitation was accompa...
متن کاملMinimally invasive tubular access for posterior cervical foraminotomy with three-dimensional microscopic visualization and localization with anterior/posterior imaging.
BACKGROUND CONTEXT Posterior cervical foraminotomy allows decompression of the nerve root with preservation of motion. A previously described endoscopic technique utilizes minimally invasive muscle splitting with routine outpatient discharge. PURPOSE The approach allows a modified tubular retraction system to be used with three-dimensional visualization and anterior/posterior fluoroscopic ima...
